St. Patrick’s Day is almost here! (It’s tomorrow, to be exact) so I thought I’d make green this month’s color cocktail theme! Cos, why not? These 5 green cocktails aren’t just good for your St. Patty’s Day celebration, but they’re also good anytime you need a green cocktail for a special occasion or event.
Now, if you’re looking for some authentic Irish cocktails (as the ones I’ve featured today are most definitely not 😀 ), I got you covered! Check out my Shamrocks & Shenanigans post where I have 5 authentic Irish cocktail recipes for you. They’re not green, but they are delicious.
Featuring:
Mermaid Mimosa
I found this delightful cocktail on Delish. It’s very simple, with a really cool color change. I’ve been on a color change kick since my Tickled Pink cocktails feature from last month. 😉
For this one, you have to follow the steps exactly in order to produce the blue to green color change effect.
Ingredients
- 1 oz Midori
- 1 oz Blue Curacao
- Prosecco
- Pineapple juice
Directions
- Add Midori to glass
- Add in as much pineapple juice as you’d like (I used about 3 oz)
- Top off with as much Prosecco as you’d like (I used about 3 oz)
- Pour 1 oz of blue curaçao on top and watch it settle to the bottom, turning the mimosa green
- Give it a stir for complete color uniformity, if you wish
- Enjoy!
Pot of Gold Mimosa
Here’s another fun mimosa with a color layering/changing effect that I found courtesy of Champagne & Coconuts. And once again, you need to follow the directions in order so you get the color effect.
Ingredients
- 2 oz orange juice
- 1/2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz blue curaçao
- Prosecco
Directions
- Add OJ & vodka to your glass
- Add in as much Prosecco as you like (I went with a solid 4-5 oz here) 🙂
- Pour in blue curaçao and watch the color show
Emerald Lady
I found this recipe courtesy of Flour on my Face. It’s very reminiscent of a pina coloda, I’m getting tons of island vibes from this one.
Ingredients
- 1 oz rum
- 1.5 oz Midori
- 2 oz Pineapple juice
- 3/4 oz OJ
- 1 oz cream of coconut
- 1 oz blood orange Pellegrino–
- the original recipe calls for club soda, but you know my stance on using club soda in cocktails
- Crushed ice (I didn’t use any ice in my version)
Directions
- Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
- Pour into your favorite glass, add a tiny umbrella if you’d like, & enjoy your mental vacay to the islands
Note: The original recipe calls for a few drops of green food coloring. I didn’t want to use any so I added a tad more Midori + a little bit of blue curaçao for a stronger green color.
Emerald Sunrise
For all my tequila lovers out there, I found this green cocktail courtesy of The Good Hearted Woman. I’m not the biggest tequila fan, cos……I’ll just leave that story for another day. However, I found this cocktail to be refreshing and a nice change up from a margarita if you’re in the mood for a tequila based cocktail.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz tequila
- 1.5 oz blue curaçao
- 4-6 oz of OJ
Directions
- Add ice, tequila, and blue curaçao to your glass. Stir well
- Add in OJ, stir again
- Enjoy
Midsummer Gimlet
Okay, so I couldn’t do a green cocktail feature and not throw in my own recipe. 🙂 Gimlets are one of my fav cocktails, so I did a spin on my gimlet recipe (you can find it here). In search of something light and springy, I opted to go with a special Hendrick’s blend, their Midsummer Solstice gin. It’s a delightfully floral gin and I can’t wait to see what all I can create with it.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice
- 1 oz St. Germain
- 1/2 oz of lime juice
- 1/2 oz (or so) of cucumber juice
- a splash of Midori
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well to combine
- Pour into a martini glass, or whatever you have on hand, and enjoy
