I rung in my birthday in the lovely city of Cincinnati this year with my BFF, and we had a blast just let me tell you. 😉 I’d begun exploring the bourbon category earlier this year (I was tired of feeling left out with my brown liquor drinking friends 🙂 ), so there was no way I was going to be that close to Louisville & not hit up the Bourbon Trail. So my friend & I took the short ride to Louisville & went on a tour of the Angel’s Envy Bourbon distillery.

I some how managed get through the tour in one piece while capturing the experience on video. Trust me, it was a struggle here & there- lol. Check out my 3 part Angel’s Envy Distillery Tour below & learn ALL about bourbon with me. If you’re a newbie, like I am, you’ll find this tour highly informative. I’m now much more comfortable tasting & discussing bourbon with affectionados.

Initially, I thought of this as just a quick trip, a precursor (so to speak) for my upcoming trip to Africa I had planned for June. But as it stands, my birthday celebrations mark the last time the world was “open”, as we went into quarantine about 2 weeks later. I’m so glad I made this quick trip, since my big birthday trip has now been postponed. I’m disappointed certainly, but won’t I complain. At least I got the opportunity to celebrate my birthday (1) in public (2) with actual people and (3) with several fun adventures I can talk about for years to come. And sadly, this is just not the case for many in this “Corona Social Distancing” world we’re currently living in.

Part 1: Angel’s Envy Bourbon-The History & the Mash

In this 1st part, I learned all about:

  1. The Henderson family–the founders of Angel’s Envy
  2. The 6 Bourbon Laws– if you don’t do all 6, it ain’t bourbon!
  3. What “finishing” is and why it’s so important to Angel’s Envy
  4. All about what a mash build is and what it tastes like

Part 2: Angel’s Envy Bourbon-The Still & the Barrels

In this 2nd part, I learned all about:

  1. Copper stills and how they are used to produce the spirit we know and love as bourbon
  2. What “new make” is (aka White Lightening) and how it smells and tastes
  3. ALL about the barrel charring, storing, and finishing process

Part 3: The Bourbon Tasting & Cocktails

In the 3rd, and final, installment, I:

  1. FINALLY got the chance to taste Angel’s Envy (plus 2 cocktails)
  2. Learned 3 tips to properly taste bourbon
  3. Learned about what to look for in bourbons to help you distinguish flavors (the nose & legs)
  4. Got a surprise chocolate/bourbon pairing (DELICIOUS)

As you can see, I had a great time on this Angel’s Envy Bourbon tour and learned so much about bourbon, as a whole.

Here are some pics from the tour & don’t forget to pin this article for ease of reference later!
