More than a few people have asked me how The Spirited Traveler came to be. So I thought I’d share how I became a travel blogger.

First and foremost, I’m a writer. Always have been, plain and simple. There was a time when I was not making much progress in my fiction writing career. There was a LOT going on in my life at the moment (namely a divorce, purchasing my first home, and adjusting to becoming a single mother of 3) that made it hard for me to focus on writing novels. However, I wrote about my personal thoughts and feelings, I even published a few pieces on my author site.

The Birth of a new Travel Blogger

While inspiration for my many fiction projects had abandoned me, I never lost my love for writing, nor my driving need to get my thoughts & feelings down on paper. Around this time, I’d started traveling internationally collecting a ton of stories, gathering inspiration for new fiction projects, and accumulating all sorts of first hand knowledge of things to do, and not do, while traveling. And as I shared my experiences with others, I noticed people, especially women, were impressed & amazed that I actually travel solo. I began to field lots of questions about my travel adventures, how I plan my trips, and tips for making it easier for them to pull the trigger on solo travel.

My love of travel is well known & documented. But so is my love for a good, quality cocktail. I count myself lucky that I met my good friend, Megan, 14 years ago. She introduced me to the art of bespoke cocktails.

I learned the importance of using fresh ingredients, quality liquors, and good mixers over the course of time we were neighbors. And let me tell you, those were GOOD times. We were constantly experimenting with the recipes and trying new stuff.

It grew to become a passion of mine. I now make my own mixers & syrups from scratch with fresh ingredients, I’m always infusing something in my pantry, & I’ve been known to create some of tastiest sangrias this side of the Mississippi River. In fact, I now have so many people coming to me for cocktail inspiration for their events, it’s a new service I now offer.

And so, The Spirited Traveler was born! As a travel blogger, I get to share my many adventures–both local and abroad, my love of bespoke cocktails, and be an inspiration to women to travel and see the world. Even if that means going solo. And so far, my journey has been a blessed one. I’ve visited 6 countries, had a variety of cultural experiences, and I’ve been around some of the most inventive bartenders in the world.
