I saw a very nice looking bunch of cherries at the grocery store and immediately decided it was the perfect time to make bourbon soaked cherries. I usually just pop them in a jar with some bourbon or whiskey, but I wanted to jazz things up this go around. After a little research into what flavors pair nicely with cherries, here’s what I came up with:

Bourbon Soaked Cherries

Ingredients:

  • Cherries
  • Bourbon
  • Water
  • Honey
  • Flavor components: orange peel, cinnamon stick, nutmeg

Bourbon Soaked CherriesDirections:

  1. Make a simple syrup with equal parts water and honey
  2. Once honey has melted and blended with water, add in spices
  3. let gently simmer for 3-5 mins, then let is steep for 10 mins (or until it cools down a little)
  4. Strain mixture and add bourbon (either equal to or half the volume of syrup)
  5. In a jar, add cherries, then bourbon mixture
  6. Give it a good shake and store in the fridge.

And there you go, simple and easy, and FRESH bourbon soaked cherries. I say give the cherries a week or two to soak in the syrup and totally infuse, then use as you please. My favorite use for these is as cocktail garnishes, but they also work well as cake or pie decoration.  And don’t throw that syrup out, add it can also be used in cocktails or baked goods experiments.
