Today is National Margarita Day! Did you know that?
No? Well, apparently every February 22nd is National Margarita Day. And no worries, I’m here with a tasty margarita for ya. One I can almost guarantee you’ve not tasted before.
Inspiration for this margarita comes from one of my favorite Memphis eateries, Edge Alley. They offer the Marga-A-Beet-A, their spin on the traditional margarita, with the addition of beet juice! Hey, get that look off your face! I know it may sound weird, but trust me when I say it’s DELICIOUS. I get one nearly every time I visit for a meal.
So, for National Margarita Day 2020, I present my own creation, the Beetarita!!
- 1 1/2 oz of Tequila
- 1 oz Cointreau (or any orange liqueur)
- 1/4 oz of St. Germain (or as much as you’d like for the level of sweetness you desire)
- 1 oz lime juice (I LOVE citrusy ritas, so you could pull this back to 3/4 oz if if suits your palate better)
- 1/2 teaspoon of beet root powder or 2 oz of beet juice
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail mixer
- Add in a few cubes of ice & shake until well combined (about 15-20 secs)
- since I used beet root powder, I wanted to ensure it was well combined
- Rim your preferred glass with salt and pour the strained the cocktail in
- I double strained using a fine mesh strainer to ensure I caught any unmixed pieces of beet powder
- Garnish how you see fit, (I went with some finely zested lime peel) & enjoy!
So, that’s the Beetarita! I love how well the earthiness of the beet pairs with the tequila. Who’d have thought??? And I like how the subtle sweetness of the St. Germain compliments the beets too, further tying all the flavors together. I love this so much, I plan on creating a spicy version. 😉
