Today is National Margarita Day!
And in honor of such an auspicious holiday, I went through my pantry and perused my bar to see what margarita concoction I could dream up. I had the usual suspects: Tequila & Cointreau, but I didn’t have any limes….only lemons.
And since it was cold and rainy, going out to store was not on my list of things to do. So, necessity being the mother of invention and all, I decided to go with fresh lemons and homemade limoncello for my new creation.

Limoncello Margaritas
Ingredients:

- Tequila- 2.5 oz
- Limoncello- 2 oz (learn how to make Limoncello here)
- Cointreau- 3/4 oz
- Lemon Juice- 2 oz (freshly squeezed)
- Lavender bitters (optional)
- Sweetener of your choice to taste (optional)
- Since my limoncello has a sweet touch, I didn’t need to use any additional sweetener
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail mixer over ice
- Shake well
- Pour into a fancy glass, or whatever drinking receptacle you have on hand
- Add a couple of dashes of lavender bitters
- Garnish with lemon zest and a few dried lavender flowers
- Enjoy!
The Verdict
The limoncello margarita is a delightfully fresh, sweet & tart beverage! But as you know, citrusy drinks are my favorite, this one in reminiscent of lemonade. I love the floral accent the lavender bitters added. Feels like Spring in a glass!
While this is a highly drinkable and remarkable smooth cocktail, it is quite potent. So enjoy wisely. You are sure to feel mighty spirited after just one. 😉
