I have a strange affinity for/odd relationship with the Bloody Mary. I absolutely adore a good one. And absolutely abhor a bad one. There is no in-between for me. With one taste, I either love it, or hate it.
So when I’m out for brunch, I scan the bar for the container of their homemade Bloody Mary mix. If I don’t see one, I consider this my 1st sign to not even think about ordering one. If you’re using a pre-made Bloody mix, I’m 100% sure I’ll hate it, and I don’t need that sort of unnecessary drama in my brunch life these days. 🙂
Okay, now on to how I discovered one of the best Bloody Mary’s in Memphis…
So, I’m sitting at the bar at Bounty on Broad, contemplating my brunch order when I spot the container sitting there looking all lush and delicious. So I ask the bartender about it and he promptly offers up a taste. After one sip, I knew I was in good hands. So of course, I ordered one.
I was not disappointed. I love a good spicy, meaty Bloody Mary with a bold garnish. And Bounty’s Bloody Mary is all of that. It’s quite flavorful, bold, spicy, & balanced. And check out the garnish!
Bounty has some of the best bacon in the city, and you get a nice strip of it, plus olives, pepper, a pickle, and a green onion stalk. But my favorite part of the garnish is the spicy, chili salt rim on it. Simply delicious.
After one sip, I immediately engaged the bartender in conversation about it and he gives me insight into the recipe & his bespoke tweaks he added to make it what it is today. I must say, the recipe is very impressive and contains several items I would never even think about adding to my mix recipe. Which is probably why my Bloody mix still has many miles to go before I allow anyone, but myself, to try it-lol.
I think he was impressed by my insight as well, as I was invited back the next week to sample their new fall cocktail line up. So stay tuned for the upcoming fall cocktail feature later this week.
If you’re a Bloody Mary fan, I highly recommend you stop by Bounty and have one. Tell them I sent you. 😉
