It’s a new year!! And after the panic, stress, & headache that was 2020, I decided to hit the lab and experiment with some new Valentine’s Day Cocktails. All of the recipes are simple, easy to make, & due to the use of my 2 special ingredients–sorrel & blood orange–are very pretty shades of pink and red. You’ll be sure to add them to the cocktail rotation for your Valentine’s, or Galentine’s, celebration this year.

Love’s Holiday
This happens to be my most favorite-est cocktail I’ve had the pleasure of stumbling across on my spirited journey. I created it while with my BFFs in Seattle & it features my 2 favs: Prosecco & sorrel. And yes, I’ve featured this cocktail before, but seeing as how everyone LOVES this mimosa, I figured I’d highlight it again. 😀
Since I love sorrel, I tend to have it on hand most of the time. For this recipe, you’ll need to pick up some from your local Jamaican restaurant, or whip up a batch yourself. I have my recipe posted here should you decide to try you hand at making it.
No worries, it’s super easy to make & you’ll be glad you did. Once you try it, I’m sure to keep it in your fridge as much as I do.
Ingredients:
- Prosecco
- Sorrel
Directions:
Mimosas are easy. You simply need to determine your preferred juice to Prosecco ratio. Mine is 10%-15% juice to 80%-85% Prosecco.
Garnish Ideas:
- Sprinkles- I used Cuffed Me by Fancy Sprinkles
- a sugared cinnamon stick
My Funny Valentine
I wanted to create another unique mimosa for the occasion this year, and seeing that I’d just juiced some blood oranges, I knew they’d be perfect to experiment with.
The juice may be a tad difficult to source, but it happens to blood orange season. So run out to your local grocery store and grab a bag to juice yourself. If needed, I have tips here on juicing your own citrus at home.
This is the perfect beverage to impress your significant other for a romantic celebration, or best girlfriends if you’re hosting a Galentine’s celebration.
Ingredients:
- Prosecco
- Blood Orange Juice
- St. Germain
Directions:
- Your preferred juice to Prosecco ratio for mimosas
- 1/4 oz of St. Germain- optional for a hint of extra sweetness (as blood orange juice is not a sweet as traditional OJ)
- To make it extra special, I added in a bar spoon of edible silver dust. It looks so pretty when you swirl it.
Garnish Ideas:
- Sprinkles- I used Cuffed Me by Fancy Sprinkles
- Pink or red sugared rim
- Blood Orange wheel
I purchased my edible glitter dust on amazon here:
Love & Happiness
As a new bourbon convert, I wanted to include something for my bourbon drinkers out there. My favorite category of whiskey cocktails are sours. And since I had it on hand, I wanted to try a blood orange sour. I must admit, this is one of my tastier experiments to date.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz bourbon- I went with Uncle Nearest
- 1 oz blood orange Juice
- 1/2 oz St. Germain
- 1 oz- fresh lime juice
Directions:
- Add ice to your fav bourbon glass
- Add in all ingredients
- Stir well to until combined & chilled through (about 10-15 secs)
Garnish Ideas
I’m not a big fan of too much fancy garnishing with whiskey cocktails. So for this one, I would stick with:
- a lime twist
- a strip of blood orange rind
- a dehydrated blood orange slice
And there you have it, 3 unique Valentine’s Day cocktails I hope you try out this year. Cheers!
